Not Born Yesterday
Lisa Costello | Creator, Host | Voice Actor | Audio Engineer
I talk to ladies over 80 about their lives - struggles, triumphs, any wisdom they would like to offer. I believe we don't value our elders as much as we should or used to - especially women. This podcast helps shed a light on the stories of everyday, extraordinary women.

Ruth Anne
Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of Ruth Anne. But what I do have an image of, is this last piece she created. I absolutely love it - it looks like a story about her childhood that she shared with me in this episode. Ruth Anne passed in 2020 at the age of 83.
Thank you Ruth Anne for your spirit, art and humor.
You can see more of her artwork here and here.

Ethel
By the time your hearing this episode, Ethel is at least 97, as all of these interviews took place before the pandemic.
Ethel is a marvel to me. She had a rich life of family, work and travel. I met a few of her younger family members while there - it was heartening to see her with family and cracking sarcastic jokes. And her direct and SUPER dry nature - I just love it.
She knew what she wanted and she made it happen. I appreciate her conviction.

Barbara
Barbara has lived such an interesting life. Married three times, was a nurse and healer through the AIDS crisis, and ventured out on her own in an orange Karmann Ghia convertible!
I admire her open heart, compassion for others, willingness to grow spiritually and share her knowledge with others.

Lynn aka "TuTu"
Lynn has led a comfortable but exciting life.
Joining the Army, singing in a big band, being a single mom and living on her own for more than four decades. She has a no nonsense approach to life I really admire.

Rose
Rose has the most incredible story.
She was able to survive the holocaust in ways you could never imagine. After many years of hardship, she was able to find peace, love and wealth of all forms.
Her endurance, persistence and gentleness
are an inspiration.

SALLIE
Sallie and I met at the US Masters Swim Team practices and I knew at once I had to interview her. She’s a smart, funny and kind woman with a lot to say.
She has participated in triathlons, raised a family, traveled the world and was a phychiatric nurse. Today, she still swims and volunteers at the local high school.

Beverly
Beverly came from such humble but strong roots. Starting her education in a one room school house in South Dakota during the Great Depression and The Dust Bowl to end up with a PhD and passion to help those around her. She changed legislation around how school nurses and their services were paid and always put her family first.
She is a vibrant and down to earth woman with such a great heart and passion for her community.
